When his friend failed to surface after leaping out of a dinghy into a swimming pool in Turkey, little Cameron Revens knew exactly what to do.

He may be just five, but the little swimmer leapt in after his friend and helped bring him to the surface, keeping his head above the water.

Cameron, of Chevington, only took his first tentative steps into the water at Bury St Edmunds Leisure Centre a year ago, and his mum Dee urged other parents to make their children do the same.

“We are all very proud of Cameron - to do what he did at five-years-old is amazing,” she said.

“He is a very reserved little boy, but in water he is so confident and that is thanks to his swimming lessons at the centre.

“Without swimming lessons Cameron would not have been able to have been able to help William.”

Cameron and William were being pulled along in a dinghy by William’s mum in water about 1.5metres deep when William jumped out of the boat.

Cameron saw William had gone under but had not come up again, so jumped into the water and pulled William up to the surface to keep his head above water until his mum could get to him.

“William’s mum told me afterwards that he had not had swimming lessons, but she would be signing him up when they went back home to Brighton,” added Mrs Revens.

Cameron attends the Newts swimming class at the leisure centre, and the centre’s swimming development manager Struan Banfield said the whole class were “very proud” of Cameron.
