A superhero-sized appeal has been issued for would-be Batmen, Spidermen and Iron Men to become their hero for a day as part of a ‘men-only’ charity fundraiser.

The Hospice Superheroes event will see fancy dress-clad participants walk five miles around Bury’s Nowton Park to boost the coffers of St Nicholas Hospice Care.

In addition to the walk there will be a memory board where participants can remember their loved ones and personal heroes.

The sponsored walk, on Sunday, June 29, will also feature a few surprises and challenges along the way.

Jenny Baskett, St Nicholas Hospice Care events and challenges fundraiser, is organising the walk.

She said: “We’ve organised for everyone taking part to be given a pie and pint at the end as an added incentive.

“On top of that, we know it will be a lot of fun.

“We hope the memory board will be popular, as we know many people raising funds for the hospice do it in memory of a family member, friend or colleague.

“I would be thrilled if lots of groups signed up to take part – whether men from the same family or perhaps those who work together – but equally men who take part on their own will be given a superhero-sized welcome and will not feel left out.”

Everyone entering the Hospice Superheroes will be asked to raise at least £50 in sponsorship.

The minimum age for mini-heroes is 10, and walkers aged 10 to 17 must obtain parental consent and be accompanied by a grown-up superhero aged 18 Earth years or more.

Ms Baskett added: “Not only will Hospice Superheroes be a really fun walk in the park, but it will help to raise funds for a very worthy cause.

“The Hospice needs to raise £11,000 every day, so every pound raised by our superheroes will make a real difference.”

Hospice Superheroes is
not a race, so no running, jogging or low-level flying is allowed.
