Bury St Edmunds: Thirteen cars have windscreens smashed in overnight attack

Two men have been arrested after 13 cars had their windows smashed in Bury St Edmunds.

Overnight between Monday March 3 and Tuesday March 4, vehicles in Barwell Road, The Vinefields, Minden Close, Honey Hill and Eastgate Street were all targeted. In addition, four buildings in Cannon Street and Crown Street also had their windows smashed.

Police are also investigating a number of thefts of badges from cars over the past month, which they believe may be linked to the above offences.

A 19-year-old man from Bury was arrested on suspicion of causing criminal damage to a vehicle in relation to six of the above incidents, and also on suspicion of two criminal damage offences to buildings, and one theft of a badge from a Vauxhall Corsa on Thursday 27 February 27. A 19-year-old man from Haverhill was also arrested on suspicion of causing criminal damage to a vehicle in respect of one of the above incidents occurring in Barwell Road.

Both men have been bailed to return to Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre on Wednesday 7 May pending further enquiries.

Police are at the scene of a crash on the A1071 near Hintlesham this evening.
