A tree surgeon is in hospital after falling from a tree he was pruning today.

The man, in his 50s, suffered a suspected broken ankle when falling from the tree in Great Ashfield, Bury St Edmunds, at around 10.15am today.

He was taken to West Suffolk General Hospital for further treatment.

In a statement, a spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service said: “We received a 999 call at 10.16am to a man who had been injured in a tree fall at Great Ashfield, Bury St Edmunds.

“The casualty is believed to be in his 50s and suffered from a suspected broken ankle. We sent an ambulance to the scene and the crew assessed the patient and gave him pain relief.

“Fortunately he was not believed to be seriously injured and we took him to the West Suffolk General Hospital for further treatment on his ankle.”
