The Freedom of Information (FoI) request also revealed that no patients had visited the hospital’s A&E more than 50 times in one year.

Another FoI request found that cases of physical and mental abuse against staff by A&E patients has fallen at the hospital.

In 2012/13 there were six cases of patients verbally abusing A&E staff. There were also six cases in 2011/12, but eight and nine incidents in the previous two years respectively.

There were fewer cases of physical assault against staff. Last year there were three incidents, compared to four the year before and five the year before that. In 2009/10, there were only two cases.
