Police are keen to trace a dog-walker

A dog walker has been identified as a key witness to a west Suffolk robbery in which a 15-year-old girl was pushed to the floor by a “chubby” man who stole her bag.

The teenager had been walking through the nature reserve off Springfield Avenue in Bury St Edmunds shortly after 6pm yesterday when the robbery happened. She was not injured during the attack, but is recovering from shock.

Detectives investigating the crime are keen to trace a dog-walker who came to her aid after the offender ran off.

Investigating Officer, Ds Claire Burgess, said: “This woman is potentially a vital witness and could help us identify the man responsible for this robbery.

She had been walking her medium-large-sized dog and has been described as being in her 40s or 50s and has blonde hair. We would really like her to contact us. We believe her name is Denise.

In addition, we are appealing for witnesses who may have seen this man running away from the scene dressed in the clothing described.”

The assailant is described as white and of chubby build. At the time, he had been wearing tracksuit bottoms and a hoodie.

Anyone with information in connection with this robbery is urged to contact detectives at Bury St Edmunds police station on 101, quoting BU/14/2467 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
