Police have arrested a 38-year-old man from Bury St Edmunds on suspicion of committing a sex offence following the incident, which took place between 5pm and 5.30pm in Hospital Road.

He has been released on bail until September 30 pending further enquiries.

A Suffolk Constabulary spokesman said detectives want to hear from anyone who was present in the cemetery, or in the area, during that time, who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously.

In particular, police want to hear from anyone who saw a man pushing a bike.

The spokesman added: “Officers are also keen to hear from an elderly lady who asked the victim if she was ok shortly after the incident as she may be able to help with their enquiries.”
