Family and friends will be uppermost in the minds of Grace Cobbold and Michelle McCoy as they limber up for this weekend’s Race for Life in Bury St Edmunds.

The pair, who work together at the town’s entertainment venue the Apex, will be among 3,000 people taking part in the event on Sunday, at Nowton Park, in aid of Cancer Research.

“I had no idea that Michelle was equally passionate about raising money for Cancer Research through Race for Life,” said 22-year-old Grace, who lives in Elmswell.

“She explained that she had lost family friends to cancer and would be running the Race for Life for her ninth year.

“I’ve also run for the last few years and am keen to raise money in the memory of those who have lost their fight with the disease.”

While Grace is running in memory of Ann Davey and Jayne Worley, Michelle, 47, will be running in memory and in support of five people.

“Every year I’ve been running the event it seems I hear about, or get personally touched by, more loss or suffering through cancer,” said Michelle, who lives on the Moreton Hall estate, Bury.

“This year I’ll be supporting two people who are close to me – Bernadette Briggs and Terry McCoy – who have suffered with cancer, whilst running in memory of Mary Howell, David Burke and George Newbury – who all sadly lost their fight.”

A 10k and 5k circuit will feature this year and to sponsor Grace text GCOB77 and the amount to 70070. Alternatively, her Just Giving page is https://www.justgiving.com/gracecobbold
