Damage totalling thousands of pounds has been caused to a stained glass window at St Edmundsbury Cathedral after a traffic cone was thrown at it.

Police in Bury St Edmunds are appealing for information after the act of vandalism.

The incident occurred between 7pm on Monday, April 21 and 8.20am Tuesday, April 22 in Angel Hill, where a traffic cone was thrown at the Victorian window causing a hole approximately five inches by six inches in size. The estimated cost to repair the window is between £2,000 and £5,000.

Police are linking this incident with a similar one also in Angel Hill, which occurred at around 10.30pm on Monday, April 21, when a traffic cone was thrown at a flat window smashing the glass.

Anyone with information about these incidents is asked to contact Bury Central Safer Neighbourhood Team on 101 quoting reference BU/14/1095, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
