The son of a terminal cancer sufferer has rallied together a team of celebrities to take part in a charity football match raising funds to help fight his father’s disease.

Paul Emmett, a father of four from Ipswich, is organising the match in support of Prostate Cancer UK between Celeb FC – a group of media personalities who volunteer their services for worthy causes – and a team of friends and family.

Mr Emmett, 34, said he was “devastated” to learn that his father, who is also called Paul, had been diagnosed with prostate cancer about six years ago.

“But once I got over the shock of it, I wanted to make more people aware of the disease, because if one person decides to get checked and they catch it early enough then that could be a life saved,” he added.

Celebrities booked for the match include Carl Owen from The Voice, Derry Mensah and Charlie Healey from pop group The Risk, Victor Ebuwa and Aden Theobald of Big Brother fame, Sky TV’s Johny Pach and JRock from Big Brovaz.

Celeb FC founder Karin Flower said the event would be a “terrific family day”.

The event, which starts at noon on Sunday, August 3, will also feature stalls, entertainment and games as part of a family fun day, which is hoped to raise hundreds of pounds for the charity. A live band will be performing after the match and there will also be face painting and a bouncy castle for children.

Mr Emmett said he was “nervous but excited” about the event and was hoping for a good crowd on the day.

Last year he raised more than £450 for the charity when he booked De’Vide, from The Voice, to perform at The Plough in Ipswich.

Tickets for the event, sponsored by Bespoke stone Ltd in Ipswich and East Point Sports in Lowestoft, cost £5 or £1 for children.
