Cockney rockers Chas and Dave have cancelled their Colchester gig due to one of the member’s ongoing battle with cancer.

The duo were scheduled to perform at the Mercury Theatre on March 24. But it was announced last week that Chas Hodges, 73, had been diagnosed with cancer of the oesophagus.

In an update, the band has announced that Chas has started his treatment and has been advised to take “long rests” between treatment sessions.

As a result, every March of the March dates for their 2017 ‘The Full Story Live’ UK tour is being rescheduled, except for the Blackheath performance on March 31.

A statement said “venues will advise on ticketing and refund options”.

The statement added: “Chas’ treatment is going well and he’s in high spirits. He’d like to take this opportunity to once again thank you all for your incredible support and good-will, and he’s looking forward to getting back on the road soon once his cancer has ‘slung its hook’(!).”
