Police investigating the fatal road collision in Chelmsford on Sunday want to hear from witnesses who have not yet contacted them.

The driver of a Chevrolet Corvette died when his car was in collision with a Vauxhall Astra travelling in the opposite direction on Essex Regiment Way on Sunday.

The Corvette caught alight and the driver was trapped inside. He has not been formally identified but is believed to be a 67-year-old man from Chelmsford.

A family from Dunmow were in the Astra and they were taken by ambulance to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridgeshire.

They all suffered serious injuries. The man and woman, both aged 30, remain in hospital with serious injuries and an 18-month-old girl is also receiving treatment on the paediatric ward. A three-year old girl was treated and released into the care of her family.

Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to contact Pc Dave Gorbutt on 101 or email collisionappeal@essex.pnn.police.uk
