Seventy years of wedded bliss was celebrated by Foxearth Nursing Home residents Gerald and Monica Mellor on Saturday.
The couple, better known as Gerry and Nicky, aged 96 and 95, have known each other since they were schoolchildren, but didn’t become a couple until they returned from respective careers in the Royal Navy and the Royal Air Force.
They both grew up and lived their adult lives in Ipswich, and were married in the parish church of Rushmere St Andrew on January 9, 1946.
They now live together in Foxearth Nursing Home in Saxtead.
To celebrate the milestone anniversary, their daughter Tiggy Alldritt organised a tea party which was attended by 14 family members including three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
“We really enjoyed our family gathering,” said Mrs Alldritt. “My parents got their card from The Queen which they were delighted with.”
