Clacton’s Coastguard unit kept a slow-moving yacht off the coast of Holland-on-Sea under observation last night to make sure it returned home safely.

Thames Coastguard HQ in Walton had received a 999 call at 8.15pm reporting the vessel may be in difficulty as it had made no progress within the past hour at sea off of Holland Haven.

However the yacht did not need any assistance.

Coastguard officers had also received a 999 call at 8.05pm about an 18-year-old man in difficulties in the sea at Jaywick.

The Clacton Coastguard team and the town’s inshore lifeboat were sent to the scene, but a second emergency call reported the teenager was now out of the water and safe and well.

Rescue units were stood down before they arrived on scene.
