Volunteer lifeboat crews came to the aid of two novice sailors as their speedboat crashed against rocks in Clacton.
Clacton RNLI’s Atlantic 85 lifeboat was called to the fishtail groyne, off Clacton Golf Club, shortly before 1.50pm on Saturday.
The 16ft speedboat, which had two men on board, was left against the rocks after suffering an electrical fault.
Helmsman Eddie Vaughan-Chatfield said: “It was a nice day and the men were fine.
“It was their first trip out in the boat and they were novices, but they had no lifejackets and no VHF radio equipment on board.
“They were given advice by us and again by the Coastguard.”
The speedboat was towed to Brightlingsea Harbour where the pair were met by Clacton Coastguard. The lifeboat returned to its station by 4.30pm.
The lifeboat crew included helmsman Eddie Vaughan-Chatfield and crewmen Tim Sutton, Ray Lynaugh and Stuart Hare.
