A man was in hospital last night after sustaining head injuries in a street robbery in Colchester.

Police are hunting three thieves who stole the 36-year-old’s mobile phone in the attack in the vicinity of St Botolph’s Roundabout at around 9.30pm.

He suffered cuts and bruises to his head and face and was treated at hospital, Essex Police said.

The three suspects were all white men. One was in his mid-late 30s, 5ft 8-10ins tall, of slight build, with short mid-brown spiky hair, clean shaven and a Mediterranean complexion. He was wearing a short-sleeved striped t-shirt and dark trousers

The second man was in his late 30s, of stocky build, about 6ft tall, with light-coloured closely shaved hair. He was wearing a long-sleeved light-grey top.

The third man was in his late 30s, of medium build, around 5ft 8ins tall, and was wearing a black flat cap and a brown leather bomber jacket.

The victim is being supported by investigating officers who are keen to identify the suspects as soon as possible.
