Colchester: Man charged after bus taken from depot in Magdalen Street early on Saturday morning

Police in Essex have charged a 19-year-old man with several offences after a bus was taken from a depot in Colchester.

The force was notified just after 4am yesterday that a single-decker bus had been driven away from a depot in Magdalen Street.

The was stopped by police about 20 minutes later in Avon Way.

Ashley Barrell from Colchester was charged with aggravated vehicle taking, drink-driving, no insurance and no driving licence. He was bailed to appear at Colchester Magistrates’ Court on September 9.

  • He probably got drunk on Friday night and thought it would be safer to take the bus home. ;-)
