A man has been arrested in connection with an ongoing rape investigation in Colchester.

Police had initially been contacted shortly before 9.30pm on Sunday with a report that a teenage girl had been sexually assaulted inside a house in the town earlier that day.

Officers are continuing to speak to the girl in order to obtain further information about the allegation.

Today a 23-year-old man from the town was arrested on suspicion of rape and is being questioned by detectives at Colchester police station.
