Colchester: Pedestrian treated for head injuries after being knocked down by car in Cowdray Avenue

A pedestrian suffered serious head injuries after being hit by a car in Colchester early today.

Police were called to Cowdray Avenue, at the junction with North Station Road, at about 1.30am following reports that a pedestrian had been in collision with a Nissan Terrano while he was crossing the road on the roundabout.

The pedestrian, a 29-year-old man from Worcester, was taken by ambulance to Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridgeshire, where he is being treated for a serious head injury.

The car driver, a 52-year-old man from the Colchester area, was not injured.

The road was closed until 4.20am while investigations were carried out and the scene was cleared.

Anyone who witnessed the accident, or anyone with information about events leading up to the collision, should contact PC Grant Fryatt or Sgt Mark Hercules at Stanway Road Policing Unit on 101.
