A 19-YEAR-OLD man from Frinton has been arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the investigation into the death of Thomas Brittain.
He is currently in police custody awaiting interview by detectives.
Police are continuing to search for Jack Hummerstone, aged 18.
Detective Chief Inspector Mark Hall, who is leading the murder inquiry, said: “Jack Hummerstone should make contact with police as soon as possible.
“If anyone knows of his current whereabouts they should make contact with police by calling 999 immediately. I would also advise members of the public not to approach him.
“The investigation is progressing; we have a number of leads that are being actively followed up. Items recovered at the scene have been sent for forensic examination; however searches remain on-going at this time.”
He added that as part of these enquiries, Essex Police Marine Officers had carried out searches along the banks of, and in, the River Colne.
DCI Hall also said that investigations into the motive for the attack were continuing.
“At this time no clear motive has been established and I am not prepared to speculate as to reasons for Mr Brittains’ death,” he said.
Specially trained Family Liaison Officers are in touch with family members and continuing to offer them their support.
Thomas Brittain, 26, died after an alleged assault at a friend’s flat in Parkside Quarter, Colchester, at around 1.45am on Saturday.
He suffered multiple stab wounds and the provisional result from the post-mortem examination carried out is that he died from a stab wound to the chest.
His family described him as a well-known songwriter and local music producer also known as Twister. They said: “He was a lovely, kind and funny man who will be dearly missed.”
The coroner was today due to open an inquest into Mr Brittain’s death.
