Firefighters were called to a fire in the roof of a semi-detached house in north Essex.

Crews were called to Shellcroft, Colne Engaine, near Halstead, just before 8.10am.

Wearing breathing apparatus, firefighters used two hose reel jets to tackle the fire.

By 8.40am crews reported that 50% of the roof was alight and the fire had affected the adjacent property.

Work to extinguish the fire was complete by about 9.25am.

A thermal image camera was used to check for any remaining hotspots.

The cause of the fire is unknown and an investigation will be carried out.
