The yearly event was held at St Mary-Le-Tower Church in Tower Street.

The money raised from this year’s concert is being donated to Age UK Suffolk which works with the EADT and Star on the annual Surviving Winter campaign and Shine a Light on Loneliness initiative.

As well as joining in with renditions of favourite carols the congregation listened to readings from students Jaz Skingle, from the Royal Hospital School, Maddie Smith, from East Bergholt High, Gaia Rogers from Farlingaye School, and Claire Manning from Claydon High School pupil. Age UK Suffolk’s Jo Reeder also made a reading.

In his address EADT and Star editor Terry Hunt talked about how 10,000 older people in Suffolk will spend Christmas all alone and asked the congregation to back Age UK Suffolk’s Commit to Call campaign, which asks people to contact a relative, friend or neighbour they know will be spending Christmas alone.
