A garden party held in memory of a former teacher, councillor, and RAF pilot has raised more than £800 for a charity supporting dementia sufferers.

Izy Coe, 67, who organised the event at her home in Cretingham, as a tribute to her father Martin Irving, said she was “gobsmacked” by the total raised for Dementia UK.

Mr Irving, who died this year, aged 91, after suffering with dementia, served as chairman of Framlingham Town Council for many years, taught French at Framlingham College and flew in the Second World War. Mrs Coe said it was a worthy tribute to her father that her guests were so generous. “My father did not want a big funeral but I thought this would be a fitting way to remember him,” she said. “People were so generous, it was wonderful.”

Guest enjoyed cream teas, played games and took part in a raffle, donating more than £800. “It’s a really lovely feeling,” Mrs Coe said.
