A hand grenade found on a beach in north-east Essex was successfully detonated yesterday, it has emerged.
Essex Police and Clacton Coastguard Rescue Team were called to Dovercourt beach shortly before 11.10am following reports a hand grenade had been found.
A Thames Coastguard spokesman said: “A cordon was implemented and upon arrival of the Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit the item was moved to a nearby area for a successful detonation.”
