Police and fire services are urging drivers to be flood aware

Suffolk police and fire services are warning people not to attempt to drive through flooded roads.

Roads across the county are flooded, with many of the worst affected being minor country routes.

A police spokesman said: “Dozens and dozens of roads are blocked, it’s all over the county, not in any particular area.”

He added that he was hopeful the water would partially clear by tomorrow morning.

The B1078, the main road between Needham Market and Barking, is amongst the routes blocked.

A Suffolk fire service spokesman also called on drivers to think about safety.

He said: “We have taken a number of calls from people who have driven into flood water requesting our assistance. Please drive with care and do not enter flooded roads. Not all the roads are signposted so please be vigilant.”

There were reports of flooding at Stour Brook, Bumpstead Brook, River Lark and Kennett and Sicklesmere to Bury St Edmunds, Chediston watercourse at Halesworth including the A144 and railway, the bridge at Needham Market, River Kennett - Ousden to Freckenham, B1117 at Denham, River Brett - Lavenham to Higham, and Brent Eleigh including A1071 at Hadleigh.
