A SUFFOLK entrepreneur is adding spice to the food industry with the expansion of her growing family business.

Sandy Ruddock set up dressings and condiments company Scarlett & Mustard in March 2012, in Cretingham, near Framlingham.

Since then, the business has grown quickly enough to open new premises at Moat Park, Earl Soham, alongside another successful Suffolk brand, coffee producer Paddy & Scott’s.

Scarlett & Mustard was designed to encouraging individuals and families to experiment with food in fun and simple ways, using the finest locally sourced ingredients.

The launch of “The Dressing Room” will allow Sandy to produce more than 2,000 bottles of marinades, condiments and dressings a week, with room for further expansion as demand grows.

The products have no additives or preservatives and are packed with natural ingredients, most of which are sourced within just 10 miles of The Dressing Room. Sandy, who has a family of seven under the same roof, said: “I made a conscious decision not to compromise quality over cost and to support the Suffolk farmers and businesses.

“I want to help promote Suffolk’s produce throughout the counties, and have been overwhelmed with the support from farm shops, delis and suppliers in supporting me as well, helping my business grow at a phenomenal rate.”

The business began at the kitchen table with two dressings, Granny’s Original Tarragon Dressing - a recipe passed down through the generations of the family which uses rapeseed oil from Hillfarm and organic balsamic vinegar from Aspall’s - and a balsamic dressing, Rosie’s Doo Dah Sauce, named after Sandy’ stepdaughter’s difficulty pronouncing “balsamic” growing up.

The company now produces five products, most recently Scarlett’s Ornamental Sauce, a ginger and soy sauce, picked from thousands of entries to win a Guild of Fine Foods Great Taste Award 2012, which was showcased at the Aldeburgh Food and Drinks Festival.
