East Anglia: No bus replacements on main line for the rest of the year

14:37 02 April 2014

Passengers planning to travel by train from the region to London at weekends should avoid bus replacements for the rest of the year.

The main line should be open every weekend – apart from a few early morning or late evening services on some Saturdays or Sundays.

Engineering work will be carried out by Network Rail at night to avoid the need for running replacement buses.

However there will be occasions when passengers from Suffolk and Norfolk have to change trains at Colchester – and on three Sundays trains will stop at Stratford where passengers can change on to Central line trains.

This is the second successive year where Abellio Greater Anglia and Network Rail have worked together to provide an improved train service at weekends.

Abellio Greater Anglia’s Andrew Goodrum said: “This real benefit for passengers has been achieved by scheduling infrastructure works more innovatively, to put our customers’ needs first whilst also maintaining important improvements.”

Richard Schofield of Network Rail added: “We recognise there is never a convenient time to close the railway and we’ve worked hard to honour the commitment we made to reduce the amount of disruptive engineering work carried out over weekends, a positive initiative we’re pleased to extend into 2014.”

Passengers planning to use weekend trains are still advised to check any changes with Abellio Greater Anglia’s website, www.abelliogreateranglia.co.uk – especially if they are planning to leave very early in the morning or return very late at night.

  • Where is the news in this? Theres still some interruptions on occasion and when there isn't the trains are slower and sparser anyway. Plus of course the unadvertised cock-ups that mess things up most days anyway. Non-news and not true, as easylec says "Who writes this stuff?".
