Pupils and their parents enjoyed a sunny afternoon of outdoor reading as part of a series of book cafes run by Suffolk’s library services team.

Easton Primary School hosted the event to inspire children to read more with their parents and to learn about the county’s mobile library van for schools.

Diane Payne, the school’s literacy co-ordinator, said it was a “lovely afternoon” and praised the library service for providing “great advice” to parents about suggested books their children might like.

“At Easton we like to have a partnership approach to reading; we’ll teach the children to read, but it’s good for parents to be involved so the pupils can understand the pleasure of reading,” she said.

The Book Cafes also visited Capel St Mary Primary School on Thursday, and will visit Broke Hall Primary School in Ipswich on Friday and Woodhall Primary School in Sudbury on Monday, July 7.

Firefighters have attended a “rescue” in Ipswich.

Three residents at an Essex care home suffered smoke inhalation after a fire broke out in a bedroom causing extensive damage to the building.

Firefighters have been called to a blaze in a residential street in Ipswich.

An appeal has been launched to find an Essex man wanted in connection with a failure to appear at court.

The University of Essex is among more than 60 institutions set for strike action next month over pensions – however staff at the University of Suffolk are not expected to take part.

The care received by patients was assessed by an independent panel

A reality TV star was caught reading about horses while driving along a Suffolk road.
