A man is in hospital after overturning and crashing his car when swerving to avoid hitting a fox in north-east Essex, police have said.

The driver was taken to hospital following the one-vehicle incident in Bromley Road, Elmstead Market, near Colchester, at around 10pm today.

An Essex Police spokesman said: “A fox ran in to the middle of the road which caused the man to turn his car over.

“He suffered only minor injuries and was taken to hospital for a check-up.”

Police officers are currently on scene directing traffic with recovery of the vehicle expected at around 11.30pm.

It is thought the man was taken to Colchester General Hospital.

Further details of the man and the car he was driving could not be released.
