Essex and England cricketer Alastair Cook is to give the nation a glimpse of his farming side in a special appearance on BBC One’s Countryfile tonight.

The England captain from Wickham Bishops, Essex, talks viewers through daily routine on his family’s farm during lambing time, along with Cook’s wife Alice and daughter Elsie, two.

Bill Lyons, Countryfile’s executive editor, said: “Alastair’s life on the farm isn’t how many cricket fans would imagine England’s opening batsman spending his time away from the sport, but this special access shows Alastair is just as serious and dedicated about his farming as he is about cricket.”

Cook, 31, has played for Essex since being part of the county side’s academy, gaining his first team debut in 2003 and his first England cap in 2005.

He was part of the England side that won the Ashes in 2010-11 in Australia.

The programme airs tonight on BBC One at 6.45pm.
