An RAF search and rescue helicopter from Wattisham and a lifeboat were called to two incidents off the Essex coast.

Just after 5.30pm on Saturday Thames Coastguard received a 999 call reporting the speedboat Aunty Bubbles with three people on board that had broken down and subsequently gone aground at Mersea Island.

The three crew were taken to the shore by the rescue helicopter and were then helped by Mersea Coastguards. The vessel is to be recovered at a later date.

A few minutes later Thames Coastguard first received a telephone call reporting an overdue jet-ski with three people on board that had launched from Point Clear, Essex.

They then received another call reporting a person in the water in the same area. One of the jet-ski riders had become detached from the craft.

This person was recovered by the same helicopter and the other two and the jet-ski were recovered by Clacton RNLI Lifeboat.
