A man injured after a small explosion on his boat in north-east Essex was flown to hospital yesterday.

The man, thought to be in his 50s, called Thames Coastguard at around 12.50pm saying he had suffered burns following a small explosion on his boat at Tollesbury Marina.

The Mersea Coastguard Team attended the scene and he was taken by the Essex Air Ambulance to Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford for further treatment.

His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening, an East of England Ambulance Service spokesman said.
