A police helicopter was dispatched yesterday morning after members of the public reported seeing a man with a machete in an Essex town centre.

Police are appealing for further information following the incident in Market Square, Braintree, around 1.40am.

Officers searched the area, with the assistance of the police helicopter, but could not find any trace of the man or the knife.

The man is described as being around 6ft 2in tall, bald and of medium build. He wore a black body warmer with a grey t-shirt underneath and grey jogging bottoms.

Anyone with information, or CCTV or dash cam footage available, is asked to call Braintree Community Policing Team on 101 quoting incident number 100 of 15/09.
