A Colchester man has been charged after a package exploded in a home last December.

The incident took place on December 21 when a packaged was delivered to an address in Othello Close in east Colchester.

The package contained a number of 300ml lighter gas canisters and wiring which exploded when the item was opened. Wayne Jeffries, 54, unemployed and of Glisson Square in Colchester has been charged with causing an explosion likely to endanger life or property.

He is due to appear at Colchester Magistrates’ Court on December 19.
