Essex Police release photos of unwanted guns handed in during firearms public appeal

More than 100 firearms have been handed in to Essex Police so far in a crackdown on gun ownership.

People are still urged to hand in unwanted or unlicensed firearms. The appeal ends on Sunday, November 26.

A total of 122 firearms were handed in during last week: 63 real firearms, 58 imitation or air weapons, and a stun gun.

A total of 129 firearms were collected in last year’s two-week appeal.

An Essex Police spokesman said: “We are asking you to hand in to us any unwanted or unlicensed firearms you have to stop them from falling into the wrong hands.”

There were more than 900 offences in Essex last year which involved a firearm. A total of 1,784 firearms were seized.

People can hand in firearms to the following police stations around the county between 9am and 4.30pm: Basildon, Braintree, Chelmsford, Clacton, Colchester, Grays, Harlow, and Southend.
