The big event may still be a few months away but Essex County Council chiefs are already preparing for the famous Le Tour de France to pass through the county on the third stage of the race.

The route will travel through Uttlesford, Braintree, Chelmsford and Epping Forest on July 7 and the council is working with a range of partners to help deliver the occasion.

A series of road closures will be put in place to make sure the race goes smoothly.

Finchingfield, which is the most photographed village in England, Wethersfield, Felsted and Chelmsford are among the places which will form part of the route.

Ann Naylor, county council cabinet member for public health and wellbeing, said: “Monday, July 7, will be a celebration of cycling in Essex.

“It’s with real pride that we will welcome the world’s elite sporting cyclists.

“An amazing and unforgettable spectacle is promised against the backdrop of our beautiful rural and urban county.

“This unique event can’t fail to inspire even more people to take to their own bikes to get around or explore the sport of cycling.”
