Potential home buyers uncovered evidence of child sex abuse as they viewed a property.

The images were uncovered in a house which had previously belonged to retired teacher Christopher Dobson in Chapel Road, Burnham-on-Crouch, Essex.

After his death his next of kin had decided to sell the property but when the prospective buyers began cleaning they found incriminating evidence and alerted police.

Essex Police are now trying to establish the extent of the unmarried 70-year-old’s alleged offending.

Mr Dobson, who had no children and was also involved in youth football, died in December 2012.

Detective Chief Inspector Mark Hall, who is leading the investigation, said: “It is my belief that Christopher Dobson committed serious criminal offences against children over a period of years.

“Despite his death my investigation seeks to establish the full extent of the offending that took place and to engage with those who may have information.

“I would seek to reassure anyone who wishes to speak with my team that their information will be treated with the utmost sensitivity and in confidence.

“My primary concern is to support to those who have been affected. I am working closely with partner agencies and other organisations that are able to provide such support.

“Prior to his death Christopher Dobson was well known and I acknowledge that there will be concerns within the local community.”

Police officers are currently trying to identify victims of Mr Dobson’s alleged offending.

At this stage of the investigation there is no evidence to suggest that any other offenders were involved, the force said.
