It will cover business concerns around discrimination law, positive stories about equality in the work place and how equality can benefit a business.

Helen Grant will speak about Government policies, alongside BT regional manager Annette Thorpe who will talk about delivering equality issues in a major business.

The event, Business is Good for Equality, takes place on Wednesday, February 27 at Hylands House, Chelmsford from 7.45am to 9.30am. Booking is essential – call 01206 765277 or visit www.essexchambers.co.uk/events.

Helen Grant is the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Justice, women and equalities. Before this appointment she served on the Justice Select Committee until 2011 and was appointed to the Conservative social justice policy group in 2006.

She joined Iain Duncan Smith’s think tank the Centre for Social Justice for which she has written extensively on family policy.

Denise Rossiter, chief executive of Essex Chambers of Commerce, said: “We are delighted to have the opportunity to welcome Helen Grant into Essex and to hear about the experiences of Essex business women on issues of equality in businesses large and small.

“As it is about equality, men are of course equally welcome and we would be delighted to see them in the audience. This is a first for Essex Chambers and highlights the important role of women in business.”
