Essex: Five-vehicle crash on A12 near Witham

A five-vehicle crash on the A12 in north Essex caused delays for motorists this morning.

No-one was seriously injured in the collision near Witham shortly before 7.30am which closed one lane of the London-bound dual carriageway for an hour.

An Essex Police spokesman said the road fully re-opened at 8.30am following the five-vehicle pile-up.

An East of England Ambulance Service spokesman confirmed no serious injuries were reported.

The crash involved a grey Range Rover, a black Volkswagen Polo, a silver Mercedes-Benz, a white Fiat 500 and a yellow Ford Fiesta.

It took place between junction 21, B1389 (Witham South) and junction 20b B1137.

Congestion reportedly stretched back to junction 25, A120 (Marks Tey).

An Essex Police spokesman said: “Police attended the scene of a road collision on the A12 at Witham. It happened just before 7.30am today and involved five vehicles.

“The road was blocked for around an hour. It re-opened just before 8.30am. There were no injuries.”

The ambulance spokesman added: “An ambulance and a paramedic officer attended the incident. All the people involved were out and walking with only minor injuries. No-one was taken to hospital.

“The ambulance and paramedic officer were stood down and left the scene shortly before 8.30am.”
