Essex: Students give university big thumbs up in National Student Survey

Students at Essex University have given the institution a 91% overall satisfaction rating.

The result, from the National Student Survey, places Essex University sixth in the country for mainstream universities.

The survey, carried out annually, asks thousands of mostly final-year students across the country to give their views on where they are studying and their course.

A total of 13 of the university’s 16 schools achieved scores of 90% or more, including a 95% rating or higher for the Computer Scienece and Electronic Engineering School. and the Department of Language and Linguistics.

Subjects ranked in the top ten nationally for student satisfaction included nursing, philosophy and performing arts.

Essex also scored 89% satisfaction with teaching, 86% for management, 84% for personal development and 83% for academic support.

Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Education, Professor Aletta Norval, said: “Giving our students a learning experience that helps them to grow and develop is our highest priority. We are committed to an education, where students develop the skills they need for a fulfilling future. We are investing in new facilities including our £26million student centre and library extension, which open next year.”

Chantel Le Carpentier, president of the Students’ Union, added: “The university has made a genuine commitment to working in partnership with the Students’ Union to deliver the best experience and education for students. I am confident we are already seeing changes around campus to fulfil this commitment.”
