Dazed and confused by the man at the door

The fuse box was making a loud buzzing noise so, as I was at home on Thursday morning waiting for the man who services the boiler –no, I am not the boiler in question, thank you – I rang an electrician.

He said he’d get to me if he had time. Morning came; morning went. Boiler man did not arrive. I phoned three times. He was attending breakdowns and I was reasonably sympathetic... something always breaks down at Christmas. At 2.45pm there was a knock at the door.

“Am I glad to see you,” I said to a bemused man and led him into the kitchen and threw open the door to the boiler cupboard.

“I was expecting you this morning but never mind; you made it. Here it is.”

He looked even more bemused.

“You’re not here to service the boiler, are you? I’ll show you where the fuse box is.”
