THAT’s me - that was the cry from a Flashback reader after seeing a photo of herself taken in 1986.
Kirsty Laifa said: “This is me in the middle!!
“Kirsty Laifa (nee Taylor) playing a gangster in drama show Tin Pan Ali!
“A friend forwarded this to me (now living in Leeds).”
Contacting us after seeing a photo of a Scout football team taken in October 1981, Mrs A Gibson, of Melton, said: “My son Martyn Gibson is third from left, and after showing him the picture he was able to fill in a few more names - Paul ??, Mark Parlett, Shaun Lummis, Jeremy Moss, John Whitlock and Micky Thorpe.
“He thinks the photo may have been taken after Woodbridge Scouts beat Kesgrave in a Cup game, which was a great cause for celebration.”
Norah Orriss wrote in regarding a tree planting ceremony that was featured in Flashback, she said: “The flashback photo of the tree planting to celebrate Kersey centenary was planted by the two oldest residents living in Kersey and the oldest girl and boy born in Kersey and attending the school at that time.
“They were from left to right: Chris Partridge, Linda Orriss (now Kerridge), Bob Spraggons and Eva Smith the Vicar was Rev Goddard.
“The church service and tree planting was followed by a party in the village hall attended by many past pupils. We had a cake which was cut by Miss Ringer, a retired teacher who cycled from Hadleigh every day in all weathers and taught at the school in the 1940s when I was a pupil there.
“The school, at that time, had outside toilets, no electricity and coal fires and a much smaller building than it is now.
“My father attended the school in 1913-1925 when he then started work, at that time there was over 100 pupils there. Since then the school has been extended with all mod cons and still being well used with about 70 pupils.
“Let’s hope it continues for many years to come.”
Another reader, added: “My name is Roxanne Keen and I am one of the girls in this photo (Buskers Day at Stowmarket). I am on the right and my cousin, Terri Thomas-Hay is on the left. We had both not long turned four-years-old and we were out in Stowmarket for a busking event with my mum, Sally Turner and my siblings, Beccy, Joe and Daniel.
“This photo was taken in the pedestrian area between the market place and St Peter and St Mary’s Church where I was married to James Keen in September 2011. It was a lovely surprise to see my picture in the paper and realise how much my daughter, Jessica, who is three in February, looks like me when I was a child.
“Thank you for sharing my picture.”
Richard Emsden added: “I am writing to you regarding the photograph of Bildeston Fashion Show.
“This was a fashion show at Bildeston House in Bildeston for ‘Winch and Blatch’ Sudbury.
“From left to right on the photograph, the names are:- Margaret Emsden, Marjorie Smith, Janice Turner-Smith, Jane Starling, Margaret King (now Knight), Celia Ward and Cynthia Harrison.
Hope this may be of interest to you.”
While Roy Clark, deputy station officer at Shingle Street Coastguard, said: “The picture that you published about an event at Shingle Street in 1980 depicts Robert “Doctor” Pottle being presented with his long service medal.
“I believe the people in the picture, from left to right, are: Don Cox (full time coastguard from Aldeburgh), Robert Pottle (Auxillary Coastguard Shingle Street), Max Milne (full time coastguard from Aldeburgh), I am not sure but possibly it is Ian Jackson (Thames Coastguard) presenting the medal and Roy Emmens (Auxillary Station officer at Shingle Street).”
