Some 200 Christians from the Felixstowe area gathered for an open-air service to mark Good Friday.

The event, organised by the Churches Together in Felixstowe movement, took place at The Canopy on The Triangle, Hamilton Road. Musicians and singers from different churches, plus the town’s Salvation Army Band, led worshippers in modern and traditional Easter song, while readings described the passion and crucifixion of Jesus.

Some churches took part in marches of witness to the event, led by a cross-bearer.

The service was led by Ted Payne, with a welcome by Sue Hockenhull, Churches Together secretary, while the Rev Harry Stalker gave a talk. Prayers were led by the Rev David Kemble, minister of Trinity Methodist Church and Seaton Road Methodist Church, and Sister Mavis, from the Convent of Jesus and Mary.

A Sunrise Service was set for 6am today on the seafront.
