Meanwhile, in a separate incident, officers have arrested a 34-year-old woman on suspicion of a similar fraud in Ipswich.

The woman is currently on bail until June 4 after being detained at Sainsbury’s in Upper Brook Street.

She is alleged to have approached one of the tills with cash before attempting to confuse the cashier in a bid to dupe the member of staff into giving her more money than she originally had.

The woman was detained at 1.45pm on Friday, May 23.

Police were called and she was taken to Martlesham police investigation centre for questioning on suspicion of fraud by false representation. Natalie Doughty, a Suffolk Constabulary spokeswoman, said the suspect – who is from Birmingham – was also arrested on suspicion of a similar fraud at the same store at around 4.15pm on March 8.

Police are hoping the release of a photograph of the two men believed to have carried out the scam in Felixstowe will lead to their arrests.

Two men entered a shop in the resort’s High Street, between King Street and Maidstone Road, at around 5.25pm on April 25.

They asked a member of staff for change. The pair then repeatedly asked the cashier for different denominations.

After they left it was found the men had managed to trick the member of staff into handing over extra cash.

The men are described as in their 30s, both around 5ft 5ins tall, of average build, one who spoke with a foreign accent and who wore black trousers and a black jacket and the other wearing jeans and a T-shirt.

If you have any information about either the Felixstowe fraud telephone Pc Rumens at Suffolk police on 101, quoting reference FE/14/691.
