A TEENAGE girl has today spoken of the frightening moment when she and her pet dog were attacked by two others running off the lead on a playing field.

Sixteen-year-old Sapphire Worlledge and her Siberian husky Kaiser were both bitten in the incident – and both suffered infections in their wounds.

Sapphire, of Capel Drive, Felixstowe, who is studying for her AS levels at Felixstowe Academy sixth form, was walking two-and-a-half-year-old Kaiser home on his lead across Orwell Green, Grange Farm Avenue, when the incident happened.

“I had gone out a bit later than usual to walk my dog and had just got to the mound near Hall Pond Way when I could see this dog with a flashing tag approaching us,” she said.

“My dog is quite young and thinks that every dog wants to play with him.

“The owner called the other dog away and I pulled my dog away. Then the other dog started to attack Kaiser, so I pulled him up to the top of the mound.

“The owner of the other dog was running across the field and I could then see he had a second dog and that it was also off the lead.”

The second dog then joined in the attack.

“I was scared and didn’t know what to do then,” said Sapphire, who has a dad Tom and mum Amanda, and a sister Jade, 19.

She tried to pull her dog – who suffered a cut paw – away and was knocked by the other dogs but didn’t realise she had been bitten at that stage. Shortly afterwards she discovered her left hand was covered in blood, her thumb sliced, middle finger cut and palm punctured by teeth marks.

Police investigating the incident on January 8 have appealed for the owner of the dogs to come forward.

He is described as being in his early 20s, white, around 5ft 10in to 5ft 11in and of slim build. He was wearing dark clothing with a hood.

The two dogs involved were a medium-sized white short curly haired collie/spaniel type and a large labrador/retriever-sized dark brown or black dog.

Anyone who knows the man, or saw what happened, is asked to call Felixstowe police on 101.
