Police have today appealed for witnesses to come forward to try to trace the owner of the loose dogs involved in the incident.

The 16-year-old girl, who suffered an injury to her hand, was walking her Siberian husky dog, on a lead, on the Orwell Green playing field at the back of the Morrisons store in Grange Farm Avenue around 4.45pm on Tuesday, January 8, when the attack happened.

She became aware of a dog wearing a flashing red collar fob around its neck approaching her.

“The man who was with the dogs was trying to call the animal back but instead it attacked the husky, biting it,” said a police spokeswman.

“A second dog, who appeared to be with the same owner, then approached and joined the attack.

“The girl tried to intervene to protect her dog but was bitten on the hand by one of the animals, causing puncture wounds.”

The owner caught the dogs and spoke to the teenager, who then returned home and was taken to hospital for treatment for the injury and the husky received treatment from a local vet.

Police need to speak to the owner of the dogs – he is described being in his early 20s, white, around 5ft 10ins to 5ft 11ins tall, of slim build. He was wearing dark clothing with a hood.

The two dogs involved were a medium-sized white short curly haired collie/spaniel type and a large labrador/retriever sized dark brown or black dog.

Anyone who knows the man or saw what happened is asked to call Felixstowe police on 101.

  • its not the dogs fault , its the owners fault for knowing what his dogs are like are still letting them offlead in a play area full of kids ? i will always stick up for the animals , a animal is what you make it if its vicious its because you have made it that way . if you know your dogs dont get on with other dogs and are boisterious then put them on a long lead or just dont take them off at all in a public place , people seize to amaze me

  • There are far too many dogs off their leads in public areas (especially on and near the promenade) in Felixstowe and many of these dogs are a clear menace to the public and to other dogs).
