The fastest wind speeds in East Anglia have reached 73mph today, weather experts have said.
The winds were recorded at Wattisham in Suffolk between 2-3pm, according to Chris Bell, forecaster at Weatherquest.
The second-highest speeds were recorded on the north Norfolk coast, registering 69mph, while it was 53mph in the village of Andrewsfield, near Braintree – the highest in north-Essex.
Mr Bell said wind speeds between 25mph and 40mph are expected throughout the evening and overnight.
“The worst of the winds have come and gone in Suffolk,” he said.
He said high tides are due at 11pm at Lowestoft and 1.40am in Felixstowe on Friday morning.
Mr Bell said overnight temperatures could reach freezing point and that Friday morning is expected to be fine and dry with temperatures of around 2/3C tomorrow.
But the weather at the weekend is expected to brighten up and temperatures will be 8/9C at the start of next week, he said.
