Although the next high tide, due to arrive in Lowestoft before midnight, is expected to be “substantially lower” than last night’s storm surge and the subsequent one this lunchtime, a number of properties remain at risk.

Warnings have been issued about 10 properties in Beccles Quay and Geldeston on the River Waveney and a further six homes near Martlesham Sluice are at risk following damage to the sluice gate.

Elsewhere, residents who evacuated flood risk affected areas last night are being advised to return home.
