Two people believed to be in their 70s have been taken to hospital following a crash near Beccles this afternoon.

Suffolk police received reports of a collision on the A146 at Barnby, between Beccles and Lowestoft, at just before 1.30pm.

The East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust assessed four patients at the scene, all of whom were walking wounded.

Two patients were taken to James Paget Hospital to be treated for their injuries.

A police spokesman descried the injuries as “minor” and “not life-threatening”.

A spokesperson for the ambulance service said: “We were called at 1.23pm today to reports of a road traffic collision at the junction of Marsh Lane and A146, Beccles.

“An ambulance crew, a rapid response vehicle and an ambulance officer were sent to help.

“At the scene we assessed four patients, two men and two women, all believed to be in their 70s, who were all walking wounded.

“Two patients were taken to the James Paget Hospital with minor injuries for further assessment.”

The road was partially blocked while recovery attended to remove the two vehicles - a Honda Civic and Vauxhall Zafira. It was reopened at 2.50pm.
