A man has been arrested following several incidents at St Michael’s church in Framlingham.

Police have been investigating a number of crimes at the church in Church Street since February.

The incidents include the theft of a handbag from a pew on February 7, a burglary on February 26 where a wooden chest was forced open and a wooden cabinet set alight.

There were further incidents on February 27 and 28 where excrement was smeared on the doorway to the church and items were moved around inside the building.

On Saturday a 21-year-old man from Framlingham was arrested on suspicion of burglary and taken into custody where he was interviewed in connection with these incidents.

He has been bailed to return to police on April 7 to allow further enquiries to be carried out.
